Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau Launches CTA Program

Galveston Island, TEXAS (May 5, 2014) - In an effort to enhance the tourist experience, the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau will officially launch the city's Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) program this month.

The CTA program is part of a nationally acclaimed certification curriculum designed to enhance tourism by inspiring members of the hospitality industry - from hotel managers and small business owners to attraction employees and volunteers - to contribute in making every visitor encounter a positive experience.

The program provides training to help participants increase their knowledge of the destination and raise the quality of customer service provided to visitors. The Galveston Island CVB is partnering with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce on the program.

"Galveston's tropical atmosphere, rich history and world-class attractions already make it an entertaining and charming place to visit, but we know the people of Galveston are what truly make a difference in delivering an unforgettable experience," said Meg Winchester, director of the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We are excited to introduce the CTA program to enhance the high level of customer service already found on the island."

Gina Spagnola, president of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, added: "We are thrilled to bring this national program to Galveston. We believe this will assist in ensuring all of our business owners play an active role in showing how great Galveston is as a destination."

To become a CTA, members of the hospitality industry must complete a reading curriculum, a four-hour CTA class and an open book test. There is also an annual renewal process.
